1 answer ~ a chap saw one in 1984 which didn't cause him any problems .

FWIW, I was infected with the WDEF virus on a Mac Plus running 6.0.8 around 1989. I got it on a disk that the "nice" people at an Egghead Software store gave me filled with shareware and freeware for my new Plus.

The "vulnerability" that it attacked (sorry, I do not remember what it did--Bruce, are you reading this?) was fixed with the release of System 7.

Other than that, I have had no problems running my Macs completely unprotected. I even play around with visiting some of the Phishing sites just to enter dummy info to see what they do. God help the person who uses Trickydicky as a login with a password of checkers.

I have yet to have a problem with a modern system running either Wamcom on 9 or the latest nightly Mozilla build on 10.2 or .3
