Opinions and advice please Listers,
A group of PC users has kindly( ? ) told me that I would be
appalled if I saw
all of the Trojan Horses and Worms working in the background
within my OS 9.1
system and greedily taking all of my personal info back to their masters for
nefarious purposes.
They could not give specifics of course(!) Or suggest a utility to directly
investigate the truth of this claim.
I would think that in the five years I have been on this list I would have
heard at least one horror story related to this yet recall none.
So If anyone has had their reputation ruined for devulged info
that they were
looking at pictures of weasels mating or had their credit ruined by a Trojan
horse that got them ten thousand subscriptions to Gerontological
Weekly please
let me know off list and how you found out and what you did to get
rid of the
problem in OS 9.1

This is my story:
I was a very famous person and wealthy beyond most people's dreams, I was
highly respected in my community. Until The Calamity struck! It was on a
7300. Running OS 9.1 with no security to speak of. I was invaded by
Martians. Yes! Martians! Martians with viruses, worms and much else in their
little toolkits. They got in and let these things loose, they even
personally rearranged things. They thought they were joking as it turned out
later: they rearranged the IDs on my hard drives, they moved and truncated
files. I lost files, I lost in particular a lot of zeros in my important
accounts. I became penniless and my power and standing shrivelled to
nothing... But one thing they did do, don't ask me how or why - maybe they
felt sorry for the damage they had wrought - is leave a button on my desktop
which, when pressed, makes the lurking Trojan Horses and Worms audible, a
sort of furry, zany sound, hard to describe. There is another button too,
which, when pressed, kills all these things instantly. (Psst ... Having lost
all, and with time on my hands, I dug out the software associated with these
buttons and packaged them with an easy installer. I would advise any rich
and important person (who has a lot to lose and er a lot of green stuff to
spare as it were...) in the legacy Mac community to
apply to me for this package. I am sorry to say it is not cheap, $1,423 for
a license for a one year subscription. (Cash only please in a plain brown
envelope, no questions asked).
