The 4GB and 9GB Seagate Barracuda drives were very reliable. I
would check, however, to see if you'll have enough cooling in your
application.
www.seagate.com will have all of the information, including a copy
of the manual, which will tell you what kind of air flow is required.

I have a 9 Gig Seagate running in the top bay of a 7500 same as the
7600 case. Has not overheated yet.
Experience with more recent drives is not necessarily relevant to
one's expectations for an older drive. Early Barracudas put off a
ton of heat, sounded like a supercharger and only deliver sustained
transfers of about 6 MB/s. That was good performance in 1995 but is
dog slow by today's standards.
I think Seagate drives are pretty good drives. I think the ST15550
and ST32550 have sufficient disadvantages to put on an avoid list. I
certainly wouldn't pay--well I wouldn't pay any money for one--but
anything more than $10 seems excessive.
I had two ST15550 drives way back when.
