Careful we had a 6160 (?) or so that broke the filestructure beyond
repair on the hd when the battery was bad,
sooo careful be!
From my experience with dead battery on PM 6100, even with it
plugged in overnight... when I first turn it on.. nothing.. then
turn it off.. wait a few seconds, turn on a 2nd time and it "bongs"
and starts up fine...

Seems to me, that I had a 6110 (very similar) and it was one of the few
Macs
that would not start (at least the video) without a Pram battery.
The 6100 will start up with a dead PRAM battery, but it take patience. You
have to leave it plugged into the mains for a while and then sort of pump
the power button rapidly a few time. It can take a good 10+ attempts to get
it to start, but it will.
