I posted with a wrong title posting. but I guess this may be ready :-)

WELL, now we know what may work, WHERE would we get them? I have an older 8500 with a G3 card.. it says 333mhz under 9, but 300 under X.... was there ANY dual G3 or G4 made for the older PCI thingies?

You need to watch out for the board type on the 9600. There were two types of boards and the cpu carda were not supposed to interchange. Seems like they were called Tsunami and Nitro boards or maybe it was Mach 5 for the later boards.

Tsunami is the 6-slot pre-Mach 5 board (9500 and early 9600).

Mach 5 boards (late 8600 and late 9600) cannot accept a non-Mach 5 Apple processor, but can accept a third-party processor.

In fact, the NewerTech processors have logic which detects the board type (pre-Mach 5 or Mach 5) can some can switch automagically, although most require a dip switch change when going from pre-Mach 5 to Mach 5.

Both Apple MP cards are designed for pre-Mach 5 boards, only.

I knew there was a gotcha on the Apple cards, I just didn't remember what it was. All of my "real" Apple PowerMacs are single cpu types. I have two Umax S900's that are DP'ed, three Daystar Genesis MP's, one Daystar Millennium (currently with a G4 but has a MP800 card) and a PowerTower Pro with an Apple dual 180 card installed (from a 9500).
