Unpluging all peripherals does not help. To go back to
the start, this computer had two drives with the
second drive acting as a storage unit. The second
drive mounts but I can't access most of the info
because the first drive has the system software
? it does not make any change on what drive is the system software,
which one has pronlems the first or the second,
you dont need to reinstall system software om mac, just copy it over
- choose the other drive and restart,
what does apple system info say
what operating system is you using ?
I gather the white startup screen fixed itself since you are talkin
about what is on the drives
a bad prambattery can give a lot of really weird symptoms,
including messin up the filetree structure of the start up disk - to
fix this you need a new pram battery and
norton or diskwarrior - and
a known good drive to fit inside, they are not expensive anymore at all,
unerase inside morton is very good in rescuing what is on a broken
scsi disk - it does not need a well filestructure to see what is on
the disk
(I
will probably have to install the system in this drive
eventually).
why ?
The major problem is how do I recover the
data in the first drive?
can you start it at all ? what happens if you connect it to the
second scsi bus ?
It was working fine until I
removed it from the computer.
maybe it had some electrical schock that affected the filestructure
I need to transfer that
data to another drive since it is about 99% full.
disk are only allowed to be 75 % full at least when containing the
system software
A second question is this: suppose I install system
software on a different drive and make this drive the
start up drive can I mount the first drive (the non
working one) as a second drive even though it was the
start up drive before it started acting up?
o yes - you choose the start up drive with start updisk control panel -
(can the drive mount at all ? what is the problem with it ??)
