I may once again try to get my 6400/200 online. Since
it will be OS 9.1 anyways, 128 ram should be enough
just for basic web/yahoo/aim stuff?
Plenty.
It can't take more than 128 anyway. My fossil 6400 only has 72 MB (+
100 virtual) and surfes jest fine. Heavy Flash-sites can get tricky,
but otherwise, it's fine. And, theres mail, a perfect mail machine.
But toss in a G3 card, and a PCI video card, and you have a much more
useful machine. Fast enougn to handle heavy stuff like Photoshop etc.
without the feeling that watching paint dry is more fun, and also
much quicker rendering of web pages. Once you're used to faster
stuff, slower stuff feels, well, ancient.
And yeah, I got one from Sonnet. Install driver first (i think), rip
out L2 cache, stuff in processor card, CUDA, restart. And Presto! A
Mac up to speed! Not OSX material, but, hey, OS9 is fine! A decent
screen, and you'll be happy.
Also, w/aVGA adapter, I can connect most any monitor?
I certainly think so. I had (until the monitor died of old age) a
generic 17" connected to my 6500, and that went fine with a VGA/MAC
converter. Pretty sure the experts can fill you in here. I'm just
hacking my way along, so to speak.
:o)
