In order for the 6400 to bood from an external CD-ROM, you will most
likely need an Apple branded or fully compatibly drive. You can't just
plug "any old" drive in and expect it to work.

What kind of CD are you trying to boot from? What do you mean, "opens
the installed 9.2.2 system?"
