I discovered (after lengthy discussion with the maker, etc) that the Iomega
USB 2.0 card I bought was only compatible with systems with G3 CPU's, no
matter what devices I connected.  In my 8500, the card showed up in Apple
System Profile, but no attached devices did.

I don't remember (if I ever knew) what the chip set was. Perhaps there are
chip sets other than VIA that don't work.  A better guide would be a chipset
that _does_ work.
