I finally got the sca drives to appear on the bus. The
problem was that I had to terminate the 68pin scsi
port on the sca adaptor even tho I was using the 50pin
one.

I have just plugged a long terminated 68pin lead in
there, and then mac os instantly saw the drives.

I have read reports of people only being able to get
these adaptors working on their 50 pin setups, and I
wonder if this is because they have had stuff attached
to the 68pin port when they tried. I suspect it might
work with 68 pin setups if you also terminate the 50
pin connector too.

Anyway then I tried to format the drives I have. I had
a shock that the fujitsu drive was actually 17gb and
not 9 which was nice but sadly it was not a nice shock
to find that drive setup decided it wasn't interested
in a drive made by fujitsu.

I read about how to hack the resources with res edit
but I don't have res edit so that was a none starter!
I tried the ultrastar disk instead and that formatted
right away. I guess thats cause apple are pals with
ibm, or have been.

Anyway I now have a 36gb drive which is wonderful!

I bet the new drive will be very fast even on my old
drive controller. Having said that I had to abort the
search for bad blocks I ran because it seemed like it
would take about 2 days!

I'm looking forward to using it!

Thanks for all the help!

love

Freya
