Or, just go to quieter SCSI drives. I've two Quantum Fireballs inside mine and it's quieter than my B&W G3. >has anyone replaced the fans with something newer and quieter? Success? >Specs on your work/products? > Nah, still running the stock fans. >Also when I put it to sleep the fans don't stop for some reason. What's >the deal? Anyone figured out how to put it into a deeper sleep mode? (I'm >used to a G4 Cube so I'm picky) > The way to put it into a deeper sleep mode requires that you go to the Special menu, choose Shut Down, and shut it down. Since the power supply in the 9600 is such a big monster (390 watt standard, 560 watt in certain Mach V machines), it's probably better to only use the machine when you need it and leave it off the rest of the time. >I'd like to add a video card. What's the most awesome one that'll run on >9.2.2? Dual-headed preferable because, well it's just cool. > Any PCI-based Radeon should work... The iXMicro cards work, but aren't as compatible with 9.2.2 as they are with 8.6 or older. >Anyone have any secrets besides the usual (craigslist, ebay) for finding RAM? > http://www.repc.com/ Shoot'em an email. Or call them and ask for Chris Mitchell. He's a little ornery, but usually has what ya need, unless it involves gPort serial ports or 56K modems for B&W G3's, as I've discovered. >Final question. Is there any way to use the 8600's vga input/output >module? I put one into my box but have nowhere on the mobo to plug it in. >Is there a PCI card for this? > Probably could get a PCI card with the S-video and the AV connections on board, but nothing that uses the PCI desktop/minitower AV port module. Haven't seen anything yet. If you see something, let me know. Would like to upgrade my 9600 to an AV machine as well. Got an 8500/120AV in the garage that I could grab and set up, but I don't relish opening up that box for upgrades. >Thanks for your time! >David > -J ++++++++++ John Laughlin Photography; Nature Photography ++++++++++++++ + Duvall, WA 98019-0778 |'82 242Ti B23FT M46 500K km - 311K mi + + MSN Messenger:Kilted_John |'83 245Ti B21FT M46 459K km - 285K mi + + ICQ# 5584031 AIM: IIci MAN |'87 744Ti B23FT AW71 208K mi - 334K km+ +++++++++ http://home.blarg.net/~volvo242gt/index.html ++++++++++++++++ -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
