I have been using a nice freeware program to do things like that. It is
called "Sam Spade!"
As their home page says: "Sam Spade is an integrated network query tool
for Windows 95, 98, NT4.0 & Windows 2000. It's freeware. - The current
version is 1.14."

Once you get a handle on the company from which the email springs, you
can sometimes phone the company to complain or email them with the addy
of the offender - but also it is very easy to hide on the internet. Why
not just set your email filter to see the sender and delete the message
automatically? I do that with a number of spammers and otherwise
irritating people.
