Win98 SE - P166 - 128 MB RAM
This looks like a McAfee problem. I keep getting blue-screened almost
immediately after boot-up, with fatal exception errors from which it's
difficult if not impossible to recover. Norton Crashguard seems to do no
good either. The problem is always initially with mscan32.vxd which I think
is the McAfee AV shield. If I do manage to recover without rebooting,
everything disappears from the system tray, even the little monitor icon
which shows I am online.
Any ideas about how to cure the problem. I hestitate to uninstall McAfee as
I've had so many problems with it in the past. Maybe the file is corrupted -
perhaps I should try to find another copy somewhere, possibly on the McAfee
install CD ??
