Jim,

As I have found in the past, thinking about the issues you have
encountered, this printer may have been setup ONLY to work in windows, as
it seems from going to Canon's web site for the USA:

http://209.85.7.18/techsupport.php?q=download&p=bjc3000

This was the site for windows drivers that was available for download -
they have drivers for this printer for win9x, winnt/2k/xp, as well as for
the mac. BUT nothing was listed for dos drivers. Also, looking at the
printer specs for it at Cannon's web site, it was listed for windows or mac
- nothing about dos.

For example, a number of HP printers I had seen several years ago ended up
in this situaiton - some of the models were for windows printing only,
while others included the capability of printing in either in windows or
directly in dos. This ended up a case of how the internal hardware/software
of the printer itself had been written to handle information that was sent
to it to print. For those that were windows only printers, you HAD to print
any dos document from a dos window within the windows environment - if you
tried to boot directly to dos and print, it was just plain impossible,
since the printer had never been setup to print that way. For those that
were for either environment, then no problem either in windows or directly
from dos.

Just to see what was the result, I used Copernic to do a search of web
sites with anything dealing with the BJC3000 - after viewing the results, I
think that this printer is one that is works either under windows or the
mac - dos was not listed anywhere.

Also, I am trying to remember - why do you need to print directly from
dos??? Most older dos business, scientific, and similar programs, I used in
the past, have almost always worked in a dos window under win98, and I
could print while in that environment - of course, there were a couple of
exceptions, unfortunately, that did require booting directly to dos to
work, but they were the exceptions. BUT, even with them, if I had to print
any output, I generally could send the output directly to a file, to print
later. The problems I had were almost always with really old dos games,
which used dos extenders for their operation - some dos non-game programs
also had this problem as well, but luckily they were few and far between.

Thanks Keith, but again no success with Epson or BJ10 and similar drivers.
Guess it must be impossible on this printer, so I'll have to look at my
other options.
