Ralph,

Many thanks for your research and comments. My program runs perfectly in a dos window
in Windows ME, but it absolutely
refuses to print the data. My previous printer - BJC-4200 - had no problems doing
this, which is why I have been trying to
print from the Command prompt, and just about anything else I could think of, plus
trying the ideas from all you good folk on
this List. The 4200 printer driver succeeded in switching the printer on, but that
was all, no printing. Every other
driver I have tried does nothing at all even if the printer is already switched on.
The dos program is in compiled QBasic
4.5 but I can't think that has anything to do with the problem as the 4200 worked fine
from it, and nothing in it has
changed. I have tried to print from this program using Canon's original driver,
supplied with the printer and then
downloaded the latest 6.81 version, as shown in your link page, but neither driver
gives a result.

If you can offer any other suggestions I would be most grateful, but I think I have
reached a dead end.

Thanks again,

Jim, in sunny Brisbane, Oz
