Ok all, here's what I had to do in regards to this post below (and all subsequent threads on the subject). I had to FIRST get the IE5setup.exe (I was able to find it ok) and run that to install IE5 (and checked all the appropriate boxes after clicking 'custom install'). Then the windows update page finally loaded as it normally does on a win98 machine WITH THE WIN98 UPDATES on it. Now since it will load as it does on my PC here, it is now scanning the other PC for win98 updates, patches, etc, as normal. So, when any of you reformat your win98 machines (NOT SE or ME, just plain win98) BEFORE you click the update icon in your start menu, you are going to FIRST HAVE to get the IE5 setup executable then run it in order to get the rest of the windows 98 updates...unless of course someone finds the exact download link for THE FULL win98 service pack. All I could find was a couple of 'parts' for it. I'm sure with the SP installed, the update page would probably load ok then. -Clint
----- Original Message ----- From: "[EMAIL PROTECTED] -Clint Hamilton" Could someone please tell me what has happened to the windows update site for a NEW win98 installation????!!!!!!!!!! It's GONE. Score another for MS jerks!! How the hell do they expect you to update win98 now!! I just installed win98 on another PC here (to give to my Dad ;-), and like I've done thousands of times before (after the yellow marks are gone in the DM) I immediately go to the update site. Not anymore! Some page comes up and states "windows update will no longer work with your computer"!!!!!! On that page is all sorts of links to click and NONE bring you to the typical regular update site!! I click the "windows 98" update link in the start menu (as always) and the page that comes up is full of all sorts of BS for ME and SE, and all sorts of other things I've never even seen before!! I even went to my PC and clicked the update icon, got that URL and the other PC still will not go to the regular update page! So, how the h*ll is someone supposed to update a win98 PC now just after a reformat or new install? I was just about to reformat MY main HD, and it's good thing I didn't and found out about this before I did! A link would be appreciated. :-) Thanks, -Clint God Bless Us All Clint Hamilton, Owner http://OrpheusComputing.com http://ComputerHardware-ConsumerElectronics.com ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
