Herb, you can run the SFC to fix many problems in XP. Go to Start / Run and type in sfc /scannow and have your XP cd ready is asked for. The downside to this is that it may require you to reinstall all patches and fixes previously applied. You can also run the XP repair feature contained within the XP setup. Boot the system from the XP cd and run setup, choose to repair the XP installation, but not through the console, accept all defaults and let it run it's length. It takes about 45 minutes on mine (Athlon 950). HTH
