Hello all, I am trying to ghost my C drive(40Gb) onto my F drive(80Gb) and then make the 80Gb F drive the new C drive so the computer will boot off the 80Gb drive as the C drive. All goes well until I try to have the computer use the new 80Gb as the C drive. I have tried both cable select and master positions on the jumper for the new drive and both plugs on the hard drive cable(there are only 2) In the BIOS the primary 0 disk is the 80Gb and the primary 1 disk is the 40Gb after I set it that way but when I look at the drives in windows explorer this position appears to be reversed. I can never get the 80Gb drive to be the master/C drive. The computer is a Dell P4 about 2 months old with XP. The drives are both Maxtor 7200rpm. I have used the install disks from Maxtor to no avail. I am using Norton Ghost 2002 if that matters. Am I doing something wrong or is what I'm trying to do just not possible? I was trying to avoid loading EVERYTHING onto the new 80Gb drive manually after making it the C drive.Any good books or online tutorials I should read.??? Everywhere I look up info it seems it should work ok but just not for me. I must be doing something wrong. I have noticed that after ghosting there is 38Gb of data on the source drive(40Gb) but only 36Gb of data on the destination drive(80Gb). I dont know why. I wanted to just transfer ALL of my files onto the new drive so I wouldnt have to get a bunch of new passwords etc. for some of my software which generates new registration #'s/passwords every time it is loaded, and re-install all the drivers/programs etc etc etc. TIA for any assitance or suggestions.
