Thanks for your reply. My network setup is Host- Windows98SE and client-
Windows XP. The host computer can ping the news server and get a correct
response, but the client cannot access the server, getting a failed
ping.
I don't know why I can get my email but cannot connect for a news
reader.

Hi Alan,

Try to connect to the news server without the network. Just use one
computer attached to the modem.
If this works then your settings are ok for that computer, and the
problem
is the settings with your network.
While still using the one computer setup, ping the news server by going
to
run from the start menu. Type command and at the prompt type ping then
your
news server. Mine would be (ping news-server.mn.rr.com) substitute your
isp's settings as needed. This will return the ip address for the news
server write it down. Mine is 24.94.165.86 use the number you get for
agent or outlook for the server address. Now hook up the network and
test
the set up, if you still can't connect to the news server you have a
network
configuration problem. I would need more information on how you are
sharing
internet connection in order to help.
