Harold,

One of the nice things about languages is that they evolve and they
change with use.  Personally, I use both web site and website as they
are both understandable and communicate the reality. Words point toward
the "thing," they are not the thing-in-itself.  With usage, the users of
the language will finally define the spelling, but that may take a few
years I'll bet. Just as we are still in the process of defining just
what the "web" is and is not. I would wager, though, when it shakes out
that "website" will win as it writes easier.

The Encarta Dictionary says it's, "Web site".
