Hi Marlene Windows XP does have half a firewall of sorts but it is only for blocking inbound traffic. It does nothing to stop outbound. If you are using a NAT based router you may not need a firewall to block incoming traffic, unless you are a belt and suspenders type. <g> If you have a direct connection to a broadband service then it is essential to have a software based firewall. I use Tiny Personal Firewall I still have the freeware version. I think they charge for it now.
