Yeah, just remove the browser and use IE or some other. Actually, personally I wouldn't even trust them as my ISP but that part is up to you. :-)
No website has any business DEMANDING a visitor MUST accept their cookie just to see the webpage! Sites that do this do not deserve your visit and I always just leave the site never to return. Exceptions are sites where you have to login, or sites where you order something; those of course you usually have to be able to accept cookies from them in order to login, or enable a shopping cart of some type. Also note that where sites that cannot "pass the test for successfully giving you a cookie" when IE6's privacy settings are set to "high", have no business in the first place trying to give you one. The cookies are blocked at that setting for a reason. Only legit, decent websites with friendly privacy policies can successfully place a cookie on your HD when the settings are set to "high". If you must manually accept a cookie from these type sites (like if you have to order something from one that is getting a cookie blocked), just temporarily accept the cookie, then when you are through go to your temp. net files folder and delete that cookie as well as all others you don't need. It's a good habit to dump ALL of the cookies you don't need on a weekly basis. *I dump mine about every two days and keep ONLY those for websites that require either a login, or personalized site features (like message boards that you want a specific layout or color scheme for). In addition to Zone Alarm's settings you should also run BOTH SpyBot and AdAware on about a weekly basis and before you run each BE SURE to check for new database updates. *A great thing to do is to set IE's settings to "empty contents of temporary internet files when browser is closed". This is of no consequence to those on DSL or cable since the pages load so fast. But those on a dialup may not like IE set this was because when you go back to page, it won't be cached and it will have to load all over again. It's up to them to decide if they want the best security with a little slowdown. This setting will not affect cookies or the contents of the so to speak 'extended cache' "Content.IE5" folder. The cookie folder has to be tended to manually, because if you click the button to "delete cookies" then of course you lose the ones you may need to keep (unless you use a 3rd party cookie manager). When you click the button to "delete files" in that same area (under IE settings and "temporary internet files") it doesn't dump what's in the "Content.IE5" folder so it has to be tended to manually as well....it should be completely emptied every few days. -Clint God Bless Us All Clint Hamilton, Owner Want to exchange links with us? http://OrpheusComputing.com ) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Larry Browning" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Clint, when you say remove it what do you mean? I should select IE as my default browser but still keep MSN as my ISP. I'm a little confused. You are right it is horrifying especially when you learn of this from others instead of the company doing it. By the way I am using zone alarm and it is set to high for ad blocking and cookies. Some site give me grief when I do this though. Larry ----- Original Message ----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Also, go to www.msn.com and check out the red "-" @lower right in IE denoting a blocked cookie. It may not be blocked on your PC if your settings are below "high", (mine are ALWAYS set to as high as possible without blocking all, as should everyone's). Double click the red minus sign then the click the URL, next click "summary" and check out what they do! It can't be copied and pasted anywhere so you'll just have go there and read it yourself. In short it states they "Collect personal data" by "unique identifiers" that "identify and INDIVIDUAL over time". Also, they "give this information to third parties", on and on and on. Pretty horrifying. I recommend everyone to place msn.com to your RESTRICTED website area so they can't put any tracking and spying cookies on your HD....and stay away from a scum site like that. -Clint ----- Original Message ----- From: "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" That browser is known to be form of spyware, and it's probably doing a lot more than that. I'd remove it and go with IE or Netscape. AdAware or SpyBot may not see it as spyware since they can't detect which programs/software are collecting personal data and sending it bask to MSN, and it may not be in their databases. -Clint ----- Original Message ----- From: "Larry Browning" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For some reason when I try to close MSN 8 using XP Pro I hear the voice say "good bye" 3 times. Also when I try not to go on line with MSN and just close the sign on screen I have to close it 3 times. It is as if the modem is set for echo or something like that. Any ideas?
