Oh sure, she's got all she needs but since she mentioned
upgrading, or "in the long run will it last", that's why I went
into future issues. :-) The integrated video isn't going to
"hurt" anything, until she wants to upgrade it (If that is, it
can't be upgraded). FAIK, it could be a great video chipset.
I just checked out the specs and see it does use the memory in
a dual channel mode, and it can have the memory upgraded up to
2gb but it doesn't say how many slots it has. So if you ever
want to upgrade the memory, you might have to 'give back' or
sell the 512mb if there's only two slots on the board. It
appears that the 3.06ghz CPU is not the one with HT technology.
For them, they only have the 2.6ghz, 2.8ghz and 3ghz CPU's that
use it. The video used is the Intel Extreme Graphics 2
chipset. Not ATI or GeForce, but should be fine for non-gaming
apps (which is fine since you don't do games). Doesn't say how
much memory it uses.

Some of Clint's comments are legitimate but I think overall you
did pretty
well. Dell is a pretty safe deal.

I don't think the integrated graphics processor will hurt you
at all from
your description of what you do with your computer.

I think you will like the monitor. I have a Dell 19" Ultra
sharp and it's
very nice.

You probably bought more processor than you need but you'll
like it a lot
and you'll be amazed at how fast it is especially compared to a
5 year old
Gateway and Hyperthreading really does work. 512 Mb of ram
will do fine for
a long time even though you are using some of it for video.

I don't like ISP software at all. You can just write down the
settings from
your old computer and transfer them to the new one without
installing
Earthlink software if you want to. Are you on a modem or high
speed line?
If there are things you use in Earthlink software then go ahead
and install
it. Let us know and we'll help you with that.

With a 4 year in-home maintenance warranty you not going to
need us anymore.
;-)

I don't know what your friend means about your old computer but
then that's
sort of a moot point right now because you have already bought
your new one.
