Harold I never saw your reply as to what OS or IE version you're using. IF it is 98x, I had that same problem you did. I could not get rid of it. I went to ME, and it went away. Then, came back! Since I've been on XP I have not had ANY IE problems. I used IE6 on 98 and ME, so that didn't fix the problem in my case. It could be some type of Windows update that is causing the problem since it didn't happen at first on '98 or ME in my cases. Maybe it's time for XP? ;-)
One thing that does come to mind that was very problematic on 98 and ME was "user.exe" and or "user.dat". I'd get invalid page faults and other errors in these modules at websites, and also many caused by mshtml.dll which was REALLY bad in OE. I found out that some updates were replacing mshtml.dll with really screwed up buggy versions that cause OE to crash when I was typing an email, and caused webpages to crash. So, what I did was save a WORKING version of mshtml.dll and every time an update would replace it, I'd put the old one back. That fixed those problems.
