Hi mike and all, RAM Frequency: Some RAM manufacturers produce models of PC133 SDRAM modules that, by design, differ in their compatiblity with PC100 SDRAM. Some models are designed to be compatible, some are not. This means that some PC133s can be combined with PC100s on the same board. They will run at 100 MHz. Also, some PC133s may be used (not in combination with a PC100 RAM module) on a 100 MHz bus speed motherboard. They will run at 100 MHz.
Motherboard Age: This can be a factor in SDRAM compatibility in regards to both frequency and size. Most, but not all mobos designed to run PC100 SDRAM will run the compatible PC133 SDRAM. Sometimes a BIOS update can help. The largest sized RAM module you can place in a motherboard is a built in limitation of the specific board. I don't recall a BIOS update ever changing the size limit, but some updates will increase stability with larger sized modules. Generally, you should be able to run a 128MB module on most boards that use PC100 SDRAM.
