Try boot to dos. Either your barebones booklet that came with the computer
should tell you how, or you have to try hitting DEL or F8, or ESC or some
such when you first turn the computer on. You usually have a cursor blinking
in an upper corner of the screen for a few seconds before the Windows splash
screen comes up. That is when you override the bootup commands.

>From dos you should be able to get into most folders (directories) on the
disk and delete any offending files, or do a dos edit of many of the text
files. No can do in XP, but you say this is W98.
