A friend's laptop is showing the following error: "Disk I/O error. Replace the disk and then press any key" (There is no floppy in the drive, so I assume it is an HD error)
I haven't seen the computer yet, and don't know what make or OS it has, or any other details. My guess is that the hard disk has gone kaputt or something gone wrong with the BIOS on the mobo. Can anyone offer any suggestions? I've asked my friend to bring the laptop into the office so I can check it out, but meantime I promised to ask all you experts to get some idea of what can or can't be done to remedy the situation.
