AHHHHH yes this happened to me once before, you have a spyware designed to seek and eliminate the other spyware elimination progs... I had one that any time I tried to install adaware, it shut the install program down, and shut down windows whenever I entered the folder the spyware was in, be it through explorer, my computer, or even command line. In the end I had to wipe XP out and reinstall :(
Sounds like this is the same kind of thing, and it affects your restore too (for obvious reasons the little bugger was designed that way). Mine actually at one point eliminated the "modem" applet icon in the control panel so I couldn't see the long init string and number it added (I had to basically unplug the phone line so I wouldn't have some international number charge). Spyware is evil stuff, and I cursed a plenty that month. -JA -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Don Briggs Sent: Thursday, August 26, 2004 7:00 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: PCWorks: Help Hi Friends, Everything was going normally and all of a sudden I have lost half of my desktop icons. It is strange but nearly all that are gone are involved with system maintenance and security, ie Spybot Search and Destroy, AdAware, Regcleaners, Defrag, etc. I am running XP Pro and have tried 2 System restores to no avail. Can any suggest ,my next move? TIA for any help you can offer. Rocky de Dragon ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
