BTW, "Resources" is CPU (running GDI and user.exe), not
physical memory. That's a common misconception.
What's your CPU speed Harold? Do you have your video drivers
installed? If you're running generic video card drivers your
resources can be lower than they should. You could also have a
resources leak. You can find a lot on that in search.
Zone Alarm sucks resources. You don't have "explorer" listed??
You've got to have it listed and you can uncheck TweakUI,
although I doubt it's consuming a lot.
John and Harold, many firewall and AV programs do NOT need
more than one entry. You have to experiment with them. My KAV
Pro loaded 3 items at startup, and I found only one is needed.
Each time you uncheck something, test it and see if the program
still works. Test the firewall at www.grc.com ("ShieldsUP! and
"Leaktest"), and test the AV software at
http://eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm

Hi Harold
I'm looking with interest at your impressively slim startup
list from
MSCONFIG. Surely there must be more in there than that.
I have a third entry for AVG, namely AVG7_EMC. I wonder what
that is.
Anybody know? I just upgraded to AVG7 the other day.
For some reason that was explained to me years ago and went in
one ear
and out the other, you need both Power Profile entries.
Why do you keep TweakUI in your startup? Whenever I use it, it
puts
itself back in there and I have to take it out again. But
that's only
once in a blue moon -- I guess I've tweaked (and maybe
over-tweaked) my
old Win98se all I need.
Sorry about your solitaire problem. That's one I'm not likely
to have
:-)
Have fun with it all!
John
