The trick is to get the right software, install it first THEN plug in the usb device. Any other order will result in failure. I had to remove the software several times in finding out that the usb device could not be plugged in first or it would upset the whole installation.
I had that problem with my first SCSI scanner. However, I've got this pen working now. The trick to this was to obtain the driver! I even inadvertently left the thing plugged in when I installed the driver, but it didn't seem to mind. The thing popped right up as a new drive when I rebooted.
