Yes it is an official XP disc I have set the BIOS so that the CD is booted from first, but it wont recognise it. No matter what I have tried, it still wants to boot from the floppy disk even though the computer is telling me that it recognises that the CD ROM is there and the BIOS is set to CDROM boot.
I have already FDISKed and FORMAT C ok, its after that that ive gotten into problems. When you say that I dont need a startup floppy disc to install XP - I guess ive gone too far down this track to go back onto that path -Peter most kindly said- Is this an official XP disc or a backup or "streamlined" disc? In your BIOS you should be able to set the boot order so that the cd is booted from first. Have you updated the BIOS to the latest release? You do not need a startup floppy disc to install XP, as a matter of fact all the format options can be run from the XP disc as well.
