I'm not sure what is wrong with you cd. If you bios is set correctly, it
should boot. If may depend on the bios but my abit motherboards ask you is
you want to boot from the cd when you boot the computer after you have set
it in the bios. If you don't press any key it goes ahead and boots
normally. You aren't missing a prompt during boot are you? On mine it's way
down at the bottom of the screen.

You can run the WinXP install from floppies if you just want to go ahead and
get it over with. I've copied some info below. The one floppy option
sounds pretty intriguing but I haven't tried it.

"To Install using the Setup startup disks.

If your computer can not boot from a CD-Rom drive then you will need to use
a Setup disk set to start the computer with. You can obtain a download which
will create a 6 floppy Setup disk set that corresponds to your version of
Windows XP from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?releaseid=33290 Home
Edition
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?releaseid=33291 Pro
Edition
Once the Startup process is finished you can point to the location of your
Windows XP CD or files to begin the install.
An alternative to the 6 floppy Setup disk set is to use the 1 floppy XP
Install Disk from here www.bootdisk.com . Boot with it and then run
WINNT.EXE from the \i386 directory of your XP CD or your setup files
location."

Subject: PCWorks: Installing Win Xp

Hi Guys and Gals

Ive just finished reformatting my hubbys hard drive Pent III 866 and am
having problems trying to install Win XP

Ive done the FDISK and FORMAT C fine but just cant seem to work out the
next step.

Ive changed the BIOS to boot from CD Rom but it wont do it. It accepts
that the CD rom is there but still keep wanting to boot from the floppy
startup disk.

If i remove the start up disk and reboot it tells me to put it back in.

Help please

Thanks

Jo Walker
