The biggest things Google did were to:
1. Simplify the interface. Just look at the Google Home page-it Searches,
and that's about it. Look at Yahoo:confusing, cluttered, chaotic.
2. The links at the top are based on popularity. The aasumption is that if
other pages link to your page you must have good content. Seems to work, as
I rarely fail to find what I want on Google's first results page.
3. Innovation: Look at the Google Toolbar, Froogle, Google scholar, etc.
Follow the "More" link.
Google doesn't insult you with irrelevant crap. You're here to search? Let's
search!

I once asked the group what Bill Gates did that made Microsoft the giant it
is, that so many other very capable computer (and business) people didn't
do. Your answer was basically, "He had an idea; it all starts with an
idea." --- I'd like to ask the same question regarding Google. I remember
when Yahoo was the rage among search engines. What is it that Google did
that made it become a verb in our languages?
