Ann,
You said you lost both of the responses to your
query. Here's the two responses that I've seen on your
problem so far. Hope these help you out.

It sort of sounds like you have lost your system fonts.
I'm having a hard time picturing 74 things down the
right side of your screen. The 74 things in your
startup is weird though. Clint may be right about some
sort of malware. Do you have a WinXP cd? If you do you
can run a restore or a repair from it. If you boot from
the cd, you can choose the recovery console and do a
restore or go ahead an start a new installation but
select "repair the existing installation" at the second
repair option.

Did you run a FULL and COMPLETE malware check and check
with your AV software? When you restart is it the same
way? If so, it sounds like a video card problem. Could
either be driver corruption, or hardware failure. What
happens in safe mode?
(You shouldn't put "Re" in the subject line of a new
email, that makes it appear as someone has already
replied).
