How about this excerpt from a previous post?

Go to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\MyComp
uter\NameSpace
Expand the NameSpace key. The unknown folder will be one of the subkeys and
it should be easy to figure out which one it is.
Then simply delete it.

Response

Thanks for the classic Start menu, Ben; for a whole week I couldn't make
sense of that new look. Only my opinion, but since the classic is so much
easier to use, they should make that view the default and give the option of
changing to this more difficult look (which appears to have five different
sections on the first level); I'm glad to be back to the old look.

And no, Ben ... these folders are on my XP desktop (Win98 is now in my
granddaughter's hands where for her needs it will be very sufficient). The
Properties windows of these folders have neither "Read only" nor "Hidden"
checked. Also, in the "Advanced" properties, nothing is checked there
either. It's almost like I cannot fool the system and it knows that once
upon a time, these particular folders were somehow associated with the Start
menu itself or with the Startup folder (where neither one I know can be
deleted).

Seems I have this system one week and I'm ready to do my first system
restore. What's holding me back is that the R/W CDs that worked so well with
98 are doing a number on me here in XP. Another email re the R/W CDs will
follow. --- Harold
