Ann,
I had this happen several times, usually after a recovery on my old Dell laptop,
I had to use the recovery CD to install the video card drivers separately.
Try the add hard ware wizard and see if it detects your video card or go to
control panel and reinstall
the drivers.

Subject: PCWorks: screen resolution and color quality.

Hi, I haven't sought help from you all in a long time. Now I'm having a very
serious problem with my computer. It works just fine except that I can't
slide the bar on my screen resolutions; thus it stays on 800 by 600 pixels.
Also the color quality is Lowest (4 bit) with no other choice. I've tried
everything I know to do. Does anyone have an idea as to how I can fix this
problem. A Recovery Disk did not come with my Hewlitt Packard. Instead the
recovery program in on the hard drive. Do you think it is necessary for me to
do a complete recovery? Would that solve my problem? Thanks in advance. Ann
