Hi Dale.
When I'm not on the internet I always disconnect. But I use one of those
little connectors with two female sockets, that are made to hook two phone
cables together. (You can get them at Wallyworld or wherever for about a
buck.)
I take two telephone cables, hook one into the wall and the other into the
back of my DSL modem. Then I hook them together, using the little joint
connector (which is lying on my desk beside the keyboard).
I leave the DSL modem on all the time. When I want to disconnect from the
phone line, I just disconnect one of the phone wires at the joint connector.
I originally came up with this because maybe 80% of the computers I repaired
had blown modem cards due to lightning surges on the phone lines. Using the
connector saves having to crawl around, reach behind the computer or
whatever to disconnect the phone line.
John.

Sometimes I pull the plug on my DSL modem.
When I plug it in again, IT TAKES FOR-E-V-E-R to reconnect to the ISP.
Is there a way to speed up the re-connection? Can I "goose" something to
get online faster?
