Hello all,

My question concerns a problem I've run into a couple of times. When I
rebuild, fix, etc. a PC for someone, I like to hook it up to my internet
connection for updates and such as well as checking operation of the
ethernet card. I have a home network behind a router which is hooked to a
cable modem. That part works fine. When I take the PC to the customers house,
it won't connect to the internet. The 2 times this happened, the PC's were
Win98SE and both houses had cable modems. I'm figuring that my IP address
information is logged into those PCs and blocking connection with their
modems. I haven't been able to figure out how to get it out of there, or
reset it. Well, that's not entirely true. The first PC, I just wiped it and
started over. I took it straight to their house and hooked it up and it
worked fine. Now, I've done another one (my brothers) and it has happened
again. It won't connect at his house. I brought it home again and hooked it
up to my network, it hooks right up. When I was at his house, I unplugged
his modem, let it power down to reset (20 min) and hooked it back up. No go.
Also while at his house, I brought up a command prompt, put in "ipconfig"
and it showed IP addressess from my network. Is there a way to "reset" those
IP numbers so it might hook to his modem? Everything I can access as far as
settings are set to "DHCP". I imagine there's an easy way to do this, just a
matter of knowing how. I've done quite a few PCs, just don't do them very
often. My network experience is a bit limited and I'm not used to using the
"commands" to get things done.

Thanks for the help,

Roger C.
