Yahoo's IM will allow you to send offline messages. The only problem I had
with ICQ was a constant barrage of smut that I wasn't interested in. It
seems ICQ is often used for mass mailings of links to porn sites, and I've
got a curious-enough teenaged son...don't want to add fuel to the fire.

Which instant messenger have you found most effective if one is using
Win98SE and a cable modem? --- Roger Williams
I have WinXP and dial-up and I'm not sure if this is the information you
are looking for but I've always used ICQ which has that wonderful "chat
screen" that supports simultaneous typing (a rather intimate situation).
However, since the grandchildren have come of age, seems they are all into
AOL Instant Messenger (also quite good). Only problem with IM is that,
unlike ICQ, you cannot send a message while recipient is offline, which
you can do with ICQ.
So now I'm using both with IM taking the big lead. Keeping in touch with
the grandchildren now cursing this technology that's brought on all those
"u r" and "i am" and "C U L8ER." Seems the kids have never heard of an
apostrophe; im disgusted. . --- Harold
