Or you could run a wire from the line-out and into the line-in on your sound card.

Record the file using windows built in sound recorder then convert that file to your favourite format.

I guess I am not being understood. When you open Audacity and go to file open
and then select a song from RealPlayer it streams into Audacity. Now what do I
do next. I tried to hit the play button in Audacity and only get a quick chirp
like sound. If I drag across the whole stream I still only get a chirp. Then
when I go to Export to MP3 in audacity It converts the stream to mp3 and my
device reads it but when I play it I get this chirp. Is that any better as a
clue to my problem. I just do not understand how to use Audacity.
Thanks for your patients

Once you have converted it, the damage is done. You will need to
recapture it and reconvert it with the new codex. Keith> [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
Thanks for the input Keith and I did finally find the file I needed from lame.
Now the problem is when I opened Audacity the open my one song music file which
streamed across the screen then I tried to convert to mp3 which it did but the
sound was really strange. I guess I do not understand audacity at all.
Thanks

For the conversions, you need a codec (format conversion file). The new Lame mp3 converter is probably among the best. there was an older version that was described as poor and this may be your problem. You can read more about them at

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Lame_Encoder.htm

and download from there as well. I use Audacity all the time to convert and edit to length MP3 files as well as WMA and a WAV formats. All have good fideltity with the Lame that I am useing.

Subject: PCWorks: Music question

I have RealPlayer and ITunes and my question is if I download music
that is ACC protected is there a way to change the format to MP3? So
far I can't find a way and I guess the only thing I must do is before
I download change my settings to MP3 encode for importing a song. The
problem is that I use both MP3 and Ipod which is another different
format. Thanks
Yes, listen to the music via your computer and use audacity to make your
music into an mp3...
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
You'll also need to download lame:

Babs, I found the file I needed and downloaded it so Audacity could find it. I
then open a song in audacity told it to convert it to MP3 and my player
recoginzes it but when I play it it sounds like some undescripable sound. I
must have missed something.
Thanks
