I've seen events here similar to that "blank" thing.  This 
happens when you send HTML formatted email to this list.  The 
list servers can't translate or find an ASCII equivalent to 
some formatted type of symbol, character or the like and puts 
that "blank" there or some other strange word or ASCII symbol. 
(You can just call "ASCII" plain text to avoid confusion).
