Thanks, Lori, for the info.

It makes sense to offer an "unknown user" business model for PDFs with
enhanced rights in addition to the traditional "known user" model, which
obviously can (but doesn't always) work within the enterprise, but typically
won't outside - don't you love the Internet (grin).

It also makes sense that the standard EULA with for the server doesn't allow
it, which is my impression, so that implies specialized pricing. As for the
referral to an Adobe rep, I'll suggest that again to the client, or will
attempt to find one myself. I suspect Adobe is still learning how to
license for unknown users, like nearly every other software company at the
moment...

I appreciate the comments regarding Approval as well, but I have to say it
does seem to be taking a back seat in marketing and positioning by Adobe at
the moment. This is what has led rise to speculation that the product is at
least being downplayed by Adobe, if not on the road to EOL (I don't know of
too many companies that like to talk about EOL before they announce, but I
know plenty that begin to minimize product visibility as the onramp to EOL).
If the product is alive and well, I think Adobe would do well to better
publicize its place in the product line, but hey - that's up to Adobe
(grin). Of course, if licensing ADSRE is cost-effective, why would you want
to use Approval except for any functionality it provides that you can't get
through the grant of rights to PDFs consumed by Reader? Maybe Approval is
just headed for slightly different, more specific use cases as the Server
products evolve... Who knows?

I'd like to hear from others on the forum who are using either the known or
unknown user model for ADSRE. Is this product in use by those on the list,
and if so, how widely, and what has your experience been both in terms of
the business arrangements (i.e. did whatever model you chose prove to be
cost-effective for your organization) and use of the product itself.

Best regards,
