I think that what you need is not a PDF exe file but a means to have the
user's computer to open the PDF document when the CD is inserted. I had to
create a similar solution for work and I discovered that even within Windows
systems, there are some issues -- some versions of Windows (95/98) needed
one method and other versions of Windows needed another method. In the end,
I had to purchase (for about $20 USD) a little program which, when the CD
was inserted, ran a program which opened the file of interest. However, you
are interested in a common solution for both Windows and Macs -- I don't
know if that is possible, you may have to create two different CDs.
