JJ, This is the suggestion I got for the duplexing issue "A very simple fix is to print/spool the large PDF file to a Xerox "HOLD" queue. The operator can manually invoke job treatment commands and release to print. Michael Vorel" Basically, we had Xerox come in and show the print operators how to create a print queue in the job manager, set release to no, that way the job will not print until an operator clicks on the job and hits release. Then in the queue properties change it to duplex. As for the tray switching, we have been trying different ways to solve this (embedding commands in the PS after converting the PDF to PS). Basically, it has come down to if there is a vendor solution for what we are calling a "post-composition" tool. Basically, we can create the output (PDF), but can't fulfill our requirement to have different paper stock. Matt Mathew A. Second, I must have missed your solution to the duplexing issue. If so, can you kindly repeat that? Third, could your tray-switching problem be related to the print driver in that it cannot recognize external scripting or the sorts? That it still needs to rely on operator intervention? Just a thought. If any one had replied (I didn't get it), could you also reply to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks Mathew A. Our biggest issue left is switching printer trays. We looked at embedding the commands into the PDF but that did not work in our environment. Are there any commercial applications that can take multi-page PDF and get it to switch trays? It would preferably be server based (UNIX). Thanks again, Mathew A. The solution wasn't successful. We have a web app where we are creating PDFs from XML documents. We have a process where at the end of the day, we can merge all the different PDFs created throughout the day into one giant PDF. We'd like to print the entire stream on our batch (Xerox) printers. The printers we have (I'm not sure model #) don't allow the operators to easily switch the job stream to duplex. Is there a way to embed directly into the PDF without ripping to postscript to allow it print the stream in duplex mode and then at the end of the stream switch it back to simplex. I would appreciate a quick response as this is still our biggest issue to resolve (along with tray switching which we are putting off for the interim) and we are coming up to the go live date.
