No, actually with Acrobat 6 Pro, you have separations and professional
grade RGB to CMYK conversions at print time "built into" the product.
Use of Quark XPress as "Swiss army knife" for separating and/or imposing
content from arbitrary PDF files is a disaster area and is the source
of many PDF workflow problems.

(1) To date, no Quark XPress version properly imports PDF 1.4 or 1.5
and support for earlier versions is tenuous.

(2) The idea of dumbing down PDF to EPS with PostScript Language
Level 1 is absurd. You lose quite a bit in terms of ability to
deal with PDF features that only appeared in PostScript Language
Levels 2 and 3 (for example, full support for TrueType fonts, 
DeviceN -- spot colors, smooth-shaded gradients, etc.)
