If all other programs are working correctly - uninstall Acrobat and then
reinstall. You may need to uninstall each plugin first.

If all programs are unpredictable - wipe the hard drive and reinstall the OS
and all programs. You may need someone very computer literate. My
experience seems to indicate that most 12-year olds know more about
computers that some "pros". Good luck - When you get it fixed you might try
to limit what the kids can do on the computer in the way of adding and
deleting files.
