Looks like you're going to a lot of trouble. Why not just save the Illustrator as an EPS and then distill THAT file? When you create the Postscript you're printing to a file using a specific page size (letter, tabloid, A4, etc). This becomes the "bounding box" for the file so you get an image that has no bearing on the actual image size. Distilling the EPS will give you the same bounding box as if you were importing the EPS directly into a paging program.
