The HP550C driver, which makes the beautiful physical print, rasterizes
the QXD file in PCL for the HP physical device. It is the baseline for
the comparision. You can only distill a PS file, not a PCL file.

It's the SAME PRINTER

 Quark ---PrintviaPCLdriver---------------->HP1150C physical device BEAUTIFUL!

 Quark--printtodiskviaApplelaserwriter--Distill--PrintwithReader->HP1150C
               COLORS WASHED OUT AND LOGICAL PAGE VERTICALLY DISPLACED

What PS printer should I use to create a non-mutilated PS file? An
alternative someone suggested is the QMS Colorscript. Then what Printer
Description File to use with the selected printer? Quark offers e.g.
Generic Color, Laserwriter, Linotronic, Omnilaser, Tek Phaser, Forecast,
CG9000PS, Fiery, G5241-PS OceColor, Generic Imagesetter, Monotype.

What printer, and what PDF, does Distiller want so that the colors are
preserved and the format not mutilated. Remember I am printing to the
same physical device, just going one more step via the print PS file to
disk/distill process.

I'd welcome pointer to any documentation that explains what is going
on under the hood here.
