Still trying with poor results to make PDFs from Illustrator 10 (small grayscale ads run by my church in the local newspaper). If I save in Illustrator as an Adobe PDF I get the wrong fonts. The fonts are Futura (opened by Suitcase, which says they're good). If I "print" a PS file and then Distill it, one of two things happen. The fonts also come out wrong. Or, more commonly, I get the message that the job cannot process because PDFLib failed to initialize. Reinstalled Acrobat 6 Pro and got the same message in three tries. In the print dialog, if I choose either File with the format PDF or choose Save As PDF... from the bottom, I get PDFs that look OK overall but with all the type rasterized at a low to medium resolution (maybe 200 ppi). Wonder if that message might actually mean Distiller doesn't like the Futura fonts that Suitcase likes and Illustrator works with normally in .ai files. Or, possibly, that if Distiller won't work with Suitcase. If I don't see other suggestions, I'll substitute a Bitstream Futura family and see how that goes. But I'm also wondering if I should do something about the Distiller's PDFLib. (If I Sherlock for "pdf" and "lib" I find them in the folders for quite a few apps - including Distiller 5 - but not for Distiller 6.) Finally, I'm wondering if there's an adjustment to get the other two ways of making PDFs (from the Print dialog) not to rasterize the type. If you've read this far, I applaud your patience.
