Janine,

Quite frankly, I really don't understand why you don't simply print
to the "Adobe PDF" PostScript driver instance and let the system do
the appropriate shuffling of PostScript in and PDF out of the Distiller.
I routinely produce PDF files hundreds of pages long from complex
content in any number of applications and with the exception of
FrameMaker 6 "book" PDF creation, I know of no good reason to manually
create PostScript and then manually feed it to the Distiller.

Having said that and reading your post, I wonder how you have a
printer labelled "Adobe Distiller." No version of Adobe Acrobat ever
created a PostScript printer driver instance (or any other driver
instance) by that name. Do you mean "Acrobat Distiller" as the name?
If so, that would imply that you didn't uninstall Acrobat 5.0.x prior
to installing Acrobat 6. That's a big "no no!" If that is indeed the
case, now you would need to fully uninstall both versions of Acrobat,
make sure to reboot, and then reinstall Acrobat 6. I would also
recommend downloading and installing the Acrobat 6.0.1 update.

Then, if you really think that you need to manually create PostScript
and then manually invoke distillation of same, the procedure would be
to print to the "Adobe PDF" PostScript printer driver instance and in
the print dialogue, check the "print to file" option (most applications,
including those in Microsoft Office have such an option). You are then
prompted for the filename and the "correct" PostScript is created
per your filename specification.
